PGA Tour rookie channels Stephen A. Smith: ‘Stay off the weed!’

The PGA Tour stars of the future announced their arrival last week at the 3M Open, an event won by 20-year-old sensation Matthew Wolff after a thrilling battle with 22-year-old Collin Morikawa and 25-year-old Bryson DeChambeau. Morikawa and Wolff are a part of a stellar class of players that turned pro in 2019, which includes 21-year-old Norwegian Viktor Hovland, who was the low amateur at both the Masters and the U.S. Open this season.

As many of the Tour’s biggest stars are shifting their focus to next week’s British Open at Royal Portrush, the trio of Hovland, Morikawa and Wolff will be competing at the John Deere Classic. Hovland will enter the tournament as the betting favorite to win at 18/1, ahead of Morikawa at 20/1 and Wolff at 25/1. When asked about the odds ahead of Thursday’s first round, Hovland broke out a Stephen A. Smith line in a hilarious moment.

Reporter: “In Vegas, you guys are the odds on favorites to win the John Deere Classic. Your thoughts on that?”

Hovland: “I don’t know what my thoughts on that are. Stay off the weed…. I’m just trying to play my best golf, we’ll see how that goes.”

You heard him, oddsmakers.
