Manchester City vs Chelsea: Ederson set to return in goal for Pep Guardiola’s side after training ahead of clash

Ederson is expected to return to the Manchester City starting line-up for their crucial clash against Chelsea this weekend.

The Brazilian missed City’s defeat to Liverpool after picking up a muscular problem during the Champions League draw with Atalanta.

The goalkeeper returned to training this week, though, and Pep Guardiola confirmed ahead of the game that he is in contention to start.

“Yes,” Guardiola said of Ederson’s fitness. “He trained the last few days with no pain.”

Claudio Bravo started in goal against Liverpool.

Guardiola also confirmed that there were no fresh injury concerns for his side heading into the Chelsea fixture, with only long-term absentees like Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane absent for the game.

“Same situation, players fit after Liverpool are fit, those injured are still injured a few more months,” Guardiola said.

Rodri returned in midfield for the top of the table clash with Liverpool and may start again having sat out Spain’s final Euro 2020 qualifier against Romania after playing all 90 minutes of the win over Malta.
